A Halloween Memory

Halloween Party 1993

I came across an old Facebook post I had written just after Halloween in October 2011...  33 years ago... seemed like a nice little memory so I figured why not share it again today... so here it is...

A Halloween Memory

When I was a kid I always thought Halloween would be around forever. Every year as October 31st grew nearer I'd be planning what I'd be that year. My mother will still tell you today how I would approach her, like a young Leornardo DiVinci, with sketched out costume designs in hand (usually last minute) and she would take my 2 dimensional dreams and turn them into reality at the sewing machine.

I was a wolfman, dracula, hunchback, karate guy, zombie, captain Kirk... The HS of Art & Design would have tremendous Halloween dances - and one year I came in second as a creation of my own, a superhero I called "The Raven". I lost out to a girl who was dressed as an Art & Design ID pass. She was almost naked. I don't blame the crowd. I'd vote for her too.

My cousin Joe, also a big Halloween supporter, threw the party in which you see Lori and I here. I was wrapped from head to toe as a mummy, and she was a Japanese Geisha girl. But tomorrow [ Oct 2011 ] I'm afraid we're just sitting it out. Halloween fell on a monday this year - a work day, and the unexpected snow storm we just got made pulling the wolfman out of our garage seem somewhat cruel.

But here's to Halloween... however shrinking... I still hold a particular fondness for it...
